Research Summary

My research interest is in understanding how taste preferences can affect nutritional health. Consuming too many empty calories can lead to diet-related chronic diseases, but it could be difficult for some people to make changes in their diets because of the pleasure derived from foods. In particular, the overconsumption of sugar is a major public health concern. I am interested in understanding how individual differences in sweet preferences are related to diet quality. As a part of this effort, I am developing an easy-to-use test to capture reliable individualized sweet preferences data on a population level. Such information will help to understand the influence of taste preference on dietary patterns across population and lifespan.
