Research Summary

Dr. Parma’s research aims to better understand how to capitalize on the clinical potential of human olfaction. By using behavioral and physiological methods, she studies the ways in which odors influence typical and atypical social and motor behavior across development. Recently, the COVID-19 pandemic has added a new dimension to her research in clinical olfaction. She says it has been an honor to lead hundreds of scientists, clinicians, and patient advocates in the Global Consortium for Chemosensory Research to illuminate how smell, taste, and chemesthesis are affected by COVID-19 and explore diagnostic solutions, as well as strategies to inform recovery.
